The next one vowing to build a better community, metaverse, staking system, native token, clothing brand or game, than the last. Hoping to manufacture enough hype to sell out their repetitious, trait-clad character collections and fulfil their loosely planned promises with their new crypto riches. And that's before a thought is spent on the blatant cash grab derivatives and lacklustre efforts knocking about the NFT scene.<\/p>
Blockchain technology brings with it an opportunity to get creative in new ways. To show the world that crypto can make a difference, that it can be used as an exciting medium to bring something original to the table. Yet what gets the most recognition? The Irony is a satirical commentary on the incessant regurgitated nature of the current NFT scene, creatively expressed in a Damian Hirst-esque, contemporary art aesthetic. The repetitive theme running throughout its process and visual seeks to illustrate the lack of risk taking and originality offered up by the vast majority of NFT collections. A commercial practice which is evidently comparable with the traditional art world.<\/p>

The Irony is a collection of 1,000 on-chain, 880x880px PNGs, each comprising of 196 coloured bananas. Each piece has been monotonously made and individually titled one by one by my own furry hands. It's monkey work, but it's honest work.<\/p>
The repetitive banana imagery is a digital art parody of the dot paintings of world famous artist, Damian Hirst.\u00a0 Hirst has consistently been called out throughout his career for plagiarising other artists work (www.stuckism.com\/Hirst\/StoleArt.html<\/u><\/a>), so it's humorously ironic that the art \u2018tributist\u2019 would embark upon using the derivatively drenched subculture of NFT's to release a body of physical artworks (made by the hands of his arty minions) in digital form. Plus...well...I'm an ape.<\/p> Why on-chain?<\/strong> There's no purer form for NFT artworks than for them to be stored and secured within the metadata of the NFT itself, and to immortally reside on the blockchain. As the technology progresses, the transaction capacity will increase from the 16kb limit it is today. The constraints of on-chain art right now gives it a historical significance.<\/p> These artworks are intended to be viewed at whatever scale the viewer chooses, and their pixel texture to be appreciated.<\/p> What's with the banana colours?<\/strong> The pink bananas have a value of 10, yellows are 1, violet are 0 and blue\u00a0are -1. The 'banana value' corresponds to the number of the individual piece. Whether that adds to the monetary value of each piece is up to the collectors to decide.<\/p> What's with the 1 word title for each piece?<\/strong> These are in reference to the names given to the abundance of collectible PFP projects within the scene, plus a bunch of familiar terms used within the NFT subculture. Why 1000 supply?<\/strong> It's enough to communicate the message.
