One spring evening, while Claude was wetting his whistle at his favourite micro brewery, he had a thought...\"How good would it be to combine my fine art photograph collection, with this equally fine establishment and brand, while also supporting another fine organisation which helped make the photographs become a reality!\"...And so he made it happen.<\/p>
The Roam X Bored Claude collaboration was put together to work on multiple levels. Claude is a digital pop artist based in Plymouth, Devon, UK. He uses the Cardano blockchain and NFT technology to independently publish his artworks and offer them to collectors worldwide. He believes that NFTs will bring a revolution to the art world that it so desperately needs. He also believes that people could benefit from knowing about the power and community which surrounds the technology, and via the age old British tradition of frequenting the local boozer, an introduction could be made.<\/p>
While Claude was embarking upon his 300 Styles collection he struck up a deal with the vintage charity shop, Shekinah, where they would allow him to borrow some particularly flamboyant items and in return would auction some artworks and donate the profits directly to their cause. Claude managed to raise \u00a3687 for the charity, which helps to support people with difficulties, to build positive lives and futures. Claude and Roam proudly supported the charity again, through the sales of Bored Claude beer and the commemorative digital artwork editions. For each pint sold, 25p was donated to the charity, along with the proceeds from the first 50 artwork Glad you asked! NFT stands for 'non-fungible token', which basically means that there is only one of them in existence. Think of a pound coin, that's fungible seeing as the next pound coin has equal value. There can be multiple fungible tokens, but only one non-fungible token.
Essentially all an NFT is is a digital receipt which lives on a blockchain, which is linked to a digital file which is stored elsewhere. Anything can be published as an NFT (a picture, music, video, a contract, a Plymouth Argyle season ticket) so the use cases for them are vast.<\/p>
Absolutely nothing, but to publish (mint) an NFT you need to attach it to a Policy ID, this ID is what makes it unique. Think of it like a certificate of authenticity for a painting or autograph. So if you were to buy an NFT artwork, you can easily find out if it is genuine by asking the artist for the Policy ID it is attached to.<\/p>
To buy an NFT you need a crypto wallet. This is like an online bank account for your crypto currency and digital assets (NFTs), but the difference is only you hold the keys to it. Once you make the transaction, your NFT will be sent to your wallet. From there, you can download the artwork and use and enjoy it however you like. You could set it as a screensaver on your digital device, print it out and hang it on your wall, make a virtual gallery with it and share the gallery link with the world, or even have a dedicated digital display in your home showing it.

There's a good few benefits. I used to make paintings and have sold a few via agents and galleries in the past. Of those sales I was charged a 50% commission on the sale price. For the amount of time taken to make a few pieces, ferry them about to galleries or send them to agents, it barely made the whole thing worth it (from a \u00a3 per hr perspective). With NFT's I can create my artwork, publish it in a matter of minutes and have it available to an eager market with ease. The marketplace I sell my work through takes a 2ADA fee from the buyer (about 50p right now) and I receive the full sale price. Plus I can set a royalty on secondary sales so I earn a % of the sale price for eternity. As an indie digital artist, I can make exciting, engaging artwork, publish it, sell it worldwide, market it, earn passive income through it, engage directly with collectors and not have to pay a penny of commission any longer, and all via a laptop and a phone.
The idea of ownership in the modern age has changed forever. People now are attached to digital assets just as much as they are to physical ones. Just think how much of a shift from physical mass production this can bring.
